- Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations: Florida Division of Corporations (Sunbiz) bulk corporate data files, new entity filings by month. Lag: Filings are added to the daily file the day they are recorded; a month is complete once the daily files run past its end, and the latest month is preliminary until the next quarterly file includes it. Retrieved 2026-10-01.
- Validated against the Division's yearly statistics (business entity filings by calendar year, 2005 to the latest full year) by entity type, at refresh and again on every build: within 2 percent or 10 filings for every year and type, or the build fails. The rule, the latest year snapshot and the five recorded exceptions are set out under Sources and methods; the pair by pair comparison is in the workbook. General partnerships and limited liability partnerships are in a different bulk file and are not here.
- Geography is the ZIP code of the principal address, mapped to its county and to the US Postal Service city name for that ZIP (GeoNames postal code file, CC BY 4.0). A city is therefore a postal city, not a municipal boundary. An entity whose principal address is outside Florida is in the statewide count only.
